Personal and Sensitive Prescriptions Given to My Ex-Husband

can the pharmacist/tech give my prescriptions to my ex-husband? I did not authorize them to do so. They saw it was the last name of a prescription he was picking up for my daughter and offered to give him my 2 prescriptions which he took. He later gave them to me, but told me what I owe him. I have no idea if he tampered with the medications. Should I ask that the meds be re-filled at no cost to me? The prescriptions clearly identified the medication which is information about 2 sensitive conditions I have that he should not know I'm being treated for.

Actually that is a HIPPA law breaker any pharmacy personnel is not allowed to tell anyone (even if the last name is the same) that there is a prescription there. Even if the couple is married what if the husband had a problem he did not want his wife to know.

Answer: My questions to you are: 1.) Did you notify the pharmacy that your ex-husband was not to be given your medicine? and 2.) Were they informed that the two of you were no longer married? If the pharmacy was not notified, then how would they have known not to give your medicine to him? As far as they knew, the two of you were still married.
