HIPAA Question - PharmTech Leaves Voicemails for Patients
A patient has filed a complaint against a pharmacy technician. The technician is accused of violation of the Heath Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) by leaving messages on the answering machine stating that the patient’s prescription is ready, but does not leave specific information concerning the medication or disease state.
Has there been a violation? Is so, what and why?
