Being prescribed an antibiotic when you are sick can make your health decline
by: David

"Bacteria make you sick by entering the body and disrupting bodily functions. Antibiotics kill bacteria and other microorganisms," said Dr. Wolk, "However, the flu is not caused by bacteria. It’s a virus, and antibiotics won’t help to combat viruses.""

Antibiotics are prescribed when there is a bacterial infection. And a common misconception is that when you have the flu, you need an antibiotic to get better. The flu is caused by a virus. So if you were prescribed an antibiotic for the flu, you could potentially be made to feel worse because you run the risk of contracting a C. Diff infection. Infection with Clostridium difficile infection can be very serious and may require emergency treatment in order to successfully recover.
