Our pharmacy is requiring us to fax doctors asking them to prescribe lipitor as "brand medically necessary" so that we will get full reimbursement from the insurance companies. I am not seeing this as ethical. The brand is not "medically necessary"; the corporation just wants more profit. I do not feel like I should do this. Can a pharmacy ask a prescriber to write "Brand Medically Necessary" to make more money?
