19 Days Supply for this TAPER Example... by: David
The first part of the sig: "1 Capsule Twice Daily For 1 Week...", Let's figure out the amount of capsules used up here. 1 cap X 2 (times daily) X 7 days (1 week) = 14 caps used up... #90-14=76 caps left.
The Second part to figure out is the second part of the Taper "...then increase to 3 Capsules Twice Daily." At this increased rate, 3 caps X 2 (twice daily) = 6 capsules per day now.
The third part is to tie this all together. From the first part, we have a remaining 76 caps (and 1 week used up). In the second part we figured that we are using 6 capsules per day now.
Now we divide 6 into 76 and we come up with 12 with a remainder. In days supply situations like this we always round down, never up, so the remainder is not necessary. We only count FULL DAYS. So we add one week (from the first part) and 12 days (third part) together and we get 19 days supply.
