Percocet: Oxy 5mg / APAP 325mg Prescription #60 TID PRN - Refill at 23 days?

Percocet: Oxy 5mg / APAP 325mg Prescription #60 TID PRN - Refill at 23 days?

Percocet 5/325, qty: #60, take 1 tablet by mouth 3 times a day as needed for severe pain. Is this a 20 day supply, even though it says, “as needed?” Will I be able to refill at 23 days?

Confused
by: Anonymous

I get pain medication every month. Why does the pharmacy not count the day I get them as the first day of a 30 day supply? They always start from the second day I get them.

Company Policy
by: WalgreensCPhT

A controlled substance written for 60 tablets of Percocet to last 20 days directed 1 tablet TID PRN should last a minimum of 20 days regardless, filling the prescription before the minimum 20 days will depends on each individual Pharmacy either by their company policy on controlled drugs or per Pharmacist on duty at that time. Our store for example will refill your prescription 1 day early; so after 19 days you will be able to get a refill.

However, some insurance will also have limitations and restrictions on filling any prescription; some may say they will refill a number of tablets per 23 days, or once a month, there many factors that comes to mind to a refill. CII drugs normally dont come with refills anyway.

Yes, You Should be able to Refill Before 20 days are up
by: David

Yes, Anonymous, depending on your pharmacy, you should be able to refill actually before your 20 days are up.

Days Supply takes into account the PRN dosing and even though it is PRN, those doses are figured into the calculation.

If you are using a prescription insurance coverage, you should be able to refill once 75%-85% of your Prescription is used up, based on 75% to 85% of #60.

That calculation is #45 to #51 pills are used.

I'll put this another way.

After 15-17 days from the day of fill, you should be able to get the prescription filled.

Hope this helps!

Happy New Year!
